It’s Fun (And Tempting) But My Heart Is Too Weak To Trade

It was fun and I could feel my heart pumping when I tried my hands in trading BTC and ETH, jumped into it without any study nor basic understanding, I followed my instinct!

That was couple weeks before I was invited to attend a trial class at Online Trading Academy Singapore to get some basic know-how into trading and investing. After the class, I learned some tips and got to understand (a little) about candlestick and some common mistakes by newbie traders, there after I tried to apply them into my BTC and ETH, won a little and stopped because no time and heart weak lah.

What is Online Trading Academy Singapore?

Since 2011, Online Trading Academy focuses on financial trading education and has now grown into a community of over 200,000 investors and professional traders from around the world. The school covers a wide spectrum of trading methodologies and asset classes such as Swing Trading, Short Term Trading, Options, Futures and Currencies.

Aaron Yeo, presenter and education director at Online Trading Academy Singapore brought us through the basic and tips on the use of supply and demand. This is rather straight forward I thought, but oh my! My understanding of supply and demand is totally different from that of trading! Referring back to my three pages long messy scribbles in my notebook, in trading, when price of a stock goes up, it doesn’t mean there’s no demand or there’s an over supply! When price goes up, it’s because no one is willing to sell.

The Loving Mum trying out a class at Online Trading Academy Singapore
See how serious I was in class! (Actually I’m just really very confused with all those red and green lines!)

Using technical analysis through the use of candlesticks chart pattern, I can (almost) 99% identify the “Area of Bank” where these forms the signals where banks and institutions will start to put their cash into the market. Tips of the day: Bank will convince you to do the opposite of what they want to achieve. So we got to always put our emotions (wahhh… pain leh keep losing or WAHHH! Going up leh quick sell!) away into the store when we trade.

As a cancerian, putting emotions aside is almost impossible lah! This is why my heart is just too weak for trading of any kind. My attempt at bitcoins and ETH was short lived, but I did earn about S$30 from this lah so not bad right? LOL!

The Loving Mum is Not on Hiatus, Just Busy

Friends and fellow blogging mums have been checking in lately to ask if I was still alive or something has happened. Thanks much for your love and letting me know that there are still real people who cares about my well being. Very grateful.

Well, it’s been quiet a crazy time for me and my new baby. Yes, The Loving Mum has got Baby No. 3 and her name is AM Collective. Ha! At times I think I spending more time on this new baby than my own two real babies at home, but hey, newborns usually get more attention right? So ya, I’ve been busy with this baby and I’m happy it is growing up well and very well nurtured by the awesome team I am blessed to have onboard. And I’m super excited about our new home for AM Collective!

Besides work, I’ve been spending the very last bit of my left over energy and time on my family and a little on myself. Personally, I’ve put on a lot of weight, so much that my grandma who’ve not seen me for few months asked what happened to me when I visited after a work shoot near her.  I was just relieved that she didn’t assumed I was preggy again! LOL! For the record, my factory is closed for good ok. I missed my slimmer days when I was undergoing my #TLMgetfit journey… maybe it’s time to set aside time to do it again!

With the crazy weight gain, my body has also been acting up with lots of aches and pain all over my body. I feel like a 70+ old lady each time I had to stand up from my work desk and in the morning when I have to get out of bed. I tried an hour of session with Dr Stretch a month back and it did help relieve some pain, but after that I’ve not managed to book another session due to the erratic schedule of mine. I’ve paid for a package with them so I must die die force myself to visit them again soon so that I don’t waste money again lah.

Family wise, I think we are doing well. And I think I’m probably the only parent whom isn’t overly panicking about primary one registration. So we did our registration online and if we don’t get into this school, we’ll just register at the next closest one for us. No pressure. Haven’t been doing much of a coaching nor teaching with the girls also, play is important right? They are still a kid! Studies and all these stress will be on them for a big part of their future days so why start so early right? See I’m trying to comfort myself already. Ha!

Ok… seriously I have no idea where this post is going… I’m just blabbing away here trying to get some time away from the crazy among of work waiting for me…

Ending this quick update with some photos from the recent days and activities in my life…

My forever baby… refused to go to bed because I was still busy typing away past her bedtime. And this happened.
We don’t get to go out on weekday nights so this rare visit to Mustafa was quite fun. Bought these for their racial harmony day celebration in school and the littlest one will be performing on National Day at a community event! This is one of her moves for her dance performance. Can’t wait to watch her dance on stage!
Sometimes I can’t tell who’s the elder one… can you? 😛
My birthday weekend was spent in JB and it seemed more like a celebration for the girls than for me. It was fun to just getaway from work and spend time filling my family love tank.
And lastly here’s me in my super round face and spot all those white hair! OMG!

Ok, break time’s up! Back to work now…

My (Gaston Luga) Backpack is Better Than Yours Here’s Why

It took me forever to find a suitable all-purpose and fits any occasions kinda backpack that I want to own. When I saw Gaston Luga Lifestyle Backpack for the first time on Instagram and on their website, I fell in love with the everlasting design and style. When my order arrived via express airmail, I was 101% sure that this backpack is going to last me for a long time.

Think Scandinavian minimalism and elegance design to suit all different occasions. Crafted with leather parts, thick quality cotton, metal details and a mix of carefully selected colours put together to became the foundation of the Gaston Luga backpacks and accessories.

GASTON LUGA CLÄSSIC – OLIVE & BROWN

That was my selected design from the range of backpacks and colours from Gaston Luga. It has travelled with me around Singapore both for work, play and family outings. The bag has also flown to Sydney and back recently and I have double confirmed my good taste and selection, the Gaston Luga Classic has served its purpose very well.

Standing tall along Sydney Harbour Bridge, unbothered by the many attention from the birds.

Compact Yet Huge in Volume

When I saw the bag on their website, I couldn’t visualise how much I’ll be able to fit into it and was a little worried. So I searched on Instagram to see how other people have been using it and use these images to confirm my selection. This backpack fits more than I’d expected and with the amount of stuff and weight I loaded into it so far, it has retained its shape, workmanship and quality. I am impressed. I’m also considering buying another colour to match my different mood.

My Gaston Luga Classic with my love at Circular Quay waiting for our ferry to Luna Park. Love the versatility of the backpack!

Not Much Difference in Price for Herschel Little America Backpack (in case you’re comparing)

The first brand that came to mind when I think of a similar style backpack is the Herschel. I bought one couple of years back and sold it off after a few times of using it. Because I find that the material is too stiff and the cushioned shoulder pads on the bag were little clumsy for my liking. The padding inside the bag also restricted the volume of stuff one can stuff into it.

The Gaston Luga CLÄSSIC backpack retails at S$319, but you can get yours at just S$216.92 just because you are awesome! The price is after a 20% off as tax rebate (from non-EU country) + 15% off with my special code “claudial15” on the remaining price after tax rebate. And you get free shipping all year round when you buy from GastonLuga.com.

My next question is… which colour should I get now? Black & Black or perhaps the Navy & Brown?

Here’s What You Get at the Free Workspace at Sengkang CC

Yes! It’s FREE! 100%! No membership fee, no subscriptions and no costs to use, drink the coffee, have some snacks and even hold your meetings. This is probably the best discovery and one that I really shouldn’t be sharing cos this may cause an influx of entrepreneurs living in the North-East to work here. But good-thing-cannot-don’t-share right?

The workspace@Sengkang CC is located on the fourth floor of the Community Club. Initiative by Mr Teo Ser Luck, he announced in February on Facebook that one of the rooms at Sengkang CC will be renovated to a workspace for working adults, entrepreneurs or anyone that needs to use an office to work, have meetings, print documents, stopover while waiting for children, to read, get cable news etc. There is a study area on the same level and now adults have a workspace too. A great initiative indeed to help the community. I hope this will be implemented across more Community Clubs in Singapore.

workspace@Sengkang CC has open-concept work desks, semi-private work area, lounging area, lockers, pantry with free coffee, tea, water and even snacks to power up our work engines. There are two meeting rooms, one that sits about 6 and the other up to 8/10. There’s high-speed broadband, pay-as-you-use printing and scanning services and even tablet stands for those who need to use them.

I’m very impressed by the decoration and style of this free workspace. To sign-up, all you need is your business card and they will issue a membership card to you.

Here are some photos were taken when I first visited… nice right the space?

Celebrate Moments That Matter This Mother’s Day

Being a full-time working mum isn’t exactly the easiest job on earth.

I often find myself in a challenging juggling act – managing the heavy demands of being literally on-call 24/7, for my clients and team because of crazy deadlines, and being a present mother and wife for my family. It takes a great deal of persistence and a lot of strength to pull through my everyday. I try to live as lightheartedly as I can and navigate through the journey of motherhood and building a business.

Being busy doesn’t mean I neglect my family. I try to make every moment fun with my two babies and hope to build beautiful memories for my family. We spend a lot of time crafting, colouring, making things and just rotting around the house. We really are quite a lazy bunch of humans. LOL!

Doing what I do at work, and my love for capturing moments with my loved ones, this year, I gifted myself, for Mother’s Day,  a brand new PowerShot G7X Mark II, because it was time for my personal G1X Mark II to retire after serving me well the past 2 years.

I’ve been asked many times, which is the best camera to get and why. Seriously, the best camera for anyone depends on which camera you have beside you when you want to capture that precious moment. It could be your mobile phone or a compact camera that you bring along everywhere you go.

I use the huge DSLR at work and also recently added the Canon PowerShot EOS M5 to the work routine. These are great cameras that help my team delivers very professional quality work. But to carry them everywhere I go is not ideal and also my team is using them to shoot very often lately. So my new friend the G7X Mark II will be my BFF wherever I go. And just in time too for my upcoming trip to Sydney with my eldest!

If you are a mum who, like me, likes to capture memories with your family and loved ones, it’s time to consider rewarding yourself with a new camera too!

This Mother’s Day, let’s celebrate the love and sacrifice of all the mothers out there; mums who have tirelessly poured into our children’s lives – teaching, inspiring and giving. Flowers and chocolates are nice gestures of showing gratitude but there’s a more meaningful and purposeful way to express our thankfulness and love – capturing moments in time by spending quality time with our family and preserving them with precious photos taken with a Canon camera.

If you’ve already got a camera, how about getting yourself a printer too? Don’t get me started on the reasons why every family should own a printer! I’ve got two at home and used them on a weekly basis! My girls love flipping through photo books, scrapbook and even my journal because they love laughing at how tiny and funny they looked when smaller.

Life with a Super Helper, I Never Knew It Was Like This

It has been four weeks since our family welcome our very first stay in domestic helper from Indonesia. The effect she has created in the household is so great; I have been questioning why didn’t we hire one earlier? We are so lucky to have found her and I’m glad this feeling is mutual.

I never really experience having a super helper and have been curious why my friends swear by having one. Now that I’ve found my own, here’s my list of 101 ways how our life in the home has changed since our super helper arrived.

  1. Dinner for a week is now better, healthier and cheaper! No more “what to eat tonight” woes and scrolling through Foodpanda for dinner. We used to spend $200-300 a week on dinners because we don’t have time to cook. Now our weekly marketing is about $120 and feeds us, 3 adults and 2 kids, for the entire week. Home cook food is surely healthier than eating out.
  2. Eating out becomes fun again.
  3. We can rot at home all weekend without worrying we don’t get feed.
  4. Hub and I get more time every day for family, work, self and us.
  5. Suddenly we have too many clothes to wear – before she came, we had a week of clothes piled up and ironed only once a week, now our laundry is washed, folded and ironed every few days. Time to clear out the not-so-fitting clothes soon.
  6. It’s like we are living in a hotel – because our beds are made so straight and need every day and the house smell so clean too.
  7. You don’t know where things are anymore, especially in the kitchen.
  8. Marketing is not just a word I hear at work, it becomes a weekly routine at Fairprice and the neighbourhood market.
  9. I am slowly getting acquainted with the vegetable and meat stall auntie and uncle in the market.
  10. We’ve got a phone in our house! The last time we had that was more than 10 years ago.
  11. We get to see things clearer through our full-length windows in the living room… the last time I cleaned those glasses was 4 years ago and now super helper cleans it every few days!
  12. I got used to someone calling me “Mamm”.
  13. Hub is no longer Ayah, now also referred to as Sir in the house.
  14. Kids are happier, healthier and Ayra is gaining weight which is a good thing!
  15. Accidents in bed by the littles one now is less frustrating because I don’t have to change the sheets on my own. This is really really really rare.
  16. My bag feels lighter (and smaller) whenever I’m out with the girls, because their water bottles and barang barang are now the helper’s load.
  17. Shelves are neater, dust free and organised.
  18. Kids play room is neater, organised and cleaner.
  19. I get more time to focus on work and family because I have fewer things to worry about the house.
  20. Courier pick-up and delivery is easier because there’s always someone in the house.

I am really glad we waited this long and found our super helper. I hope she will stay like this for a long long time. We’ve gained each other trust over the month and I’m checking in less via our blink cameras around the house, sometimes I don’t even feel I have to anymore.

If you’re wondering, my hub and I are still hands-on with the daily routine with our girls, we bathe, feed, tug them to sleep and take care of them, because to us, taking care of our children is the parent’s responsibility. Auntie do get to play with them before bed and help out in the toilet at times because the girls have this weird “I need to poo” timing when we are having our meals!

Super Mum Needs Super Power, I’m Powering Up with Blink around my Home

I tried, and I think I did pretty well. But I know it could be better.

The Super Mum tag wasn’t self titled, friends and people around me is always shocked to know I am juggling everything from family, home and work without help. It had been very exhausting and many times I wanted to throw in the towel. Enough of having 1001 tasks to take care of every day. I cannot be the Super Mum, I needed extra pair of hands to help.

When our part time helper who came by once a week to help clean the house told me she will be returning home for good, I knew this was a sign. The sign to rethink how I can better coupe with the multiple responsibilities around the house.

I didn’t want to have to worry if the laundry is full and needed for wash, I didn’t want to worry if my family has clean house to live in, I didn’t want to think about what dinner to get home after work and rushing home in time so my family wouldn’t have to wait for their unhealthy MSG filled meal.

I outsourced.

I have never liked the thought of having a stay in helper, because the family is worried we will not be comfortable sharing our home. But I needed to so I can focus on the more important things, time with my kids and work.

It didn’t take us long to find the one. I found her in the first group of helpers shortlisted, she was the first that got my attention. With three times experience in Singapore, children all grown up and at a mature age; I knew right away she’s the one.

Preparing for arrival

Being the first time employer for a helper who will have to stay home alone most of the time in the day, I wanted to be able to check on her and the house when I am out. I needed to get cameras for the house but I really don’t like unsightly cables running around. I needed a wire free solution.

Blink is my solution

It was a kickstarter project and now marketed by Aztech, I saw it first on Chester’s blog and then on Zitseng’s. If you want to know the how-to and tech specs, please click on the links to read, because this is the Mummy C talking not the techie gadget Claudia.

Blink camera starter set
The Blink camera is super small, light and wire free! I can place it anywhere around the house.

Because of the wire free and easy setup, I was able to very quickly connect it via the Blink app and our home wifi, and I’m ready to go. Stick it anywhere around the house with my trusted 3M tape and I can monitor what goes on around the house anywhere I am.

Not a surveillance camera

I have to highlight that this camera isn’t an around-the-clock surveillance camera. It doesn’t watch over your home all the time and it doesn’t record looping or non-stop videos. Blink is a home security and monitoring system – it can be armed to detect motion where it will send an alert on your mobile app and record a pre-determined video clip based on your setting. When that happens, the camera will also illuminate which may give the person or thing that caused the motion to jump!

Like a baby monitor

I use the Blink camera like a baby monitor for the house. Whenever you want to check on your baby, you check on the monitor, this is the same. When I want to see what’s my helper doing around the house, I tap on the mobile app, turn on the camera and watch. I can also turn on or off sound capturing from the camera.

Can you spot Blink?

Easy add-on camera

Each Blink camera has a view angle of 110-degree, I can view 90% of my living room when it’s placed in the centre of the room but I needed more than one. I’m going to be getting two more Blink cameras to add-on to my setup at home so I can have access to an all-round monitoring when I am not home. One Blink camera outside our rooms so I can see what’s happening inside, and one more (armed) from inside the living room so I can monitor who’s going in and out of the house during the day.

The Blink camera on the right and the “brain/heart” of the system on the left.

With a super helper and our super monitoring cameras, I think I am able to do more super things because I now have better control and system for my home and family. Next up is to build my super team at work to power up my super power!

Blink Aztech starter kit is selling at S$188, each additional camera sells at $138 each. Find out more on Blink Aztech website.
