We wanted a getaway but didn’t want to spend long hours traveling, so staycation it was over the weekend before things get crazy again at work for Mummy. This time, we checked in to Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium, our first family staycation with Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium (part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, IHG).
What makes an ideal family staycation for us now?
With the change of routine around the house since beginning of this year, we try as much as we can to have the parents do nothing and just spend time relaxing and bonding with our two girls. (Because it is almost impossible to pull mummy away from work for more than an hour 7-days a week!) A no-frill all-inclusive staycation is what we need once a few months, just to recharge and have fun just being together.
So whenever there is a chance for a family staycation we will jump right into it!
The room at Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium
The 512 rooms at Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium were recently refurbished (in 2015). The modern interiors creatively incorporate design elements inspired by the iconic Singapore River and the colourful rows of shophouses along its historic riverbanks.
Comfortable bed, space for the kids in the room and of course a bath tub! These are all we needed for our fuss-free weekend together. The girls were occupied and happy, while the parents just lazed and chill.
The girls were fast to start exploring and chopping their bed upon entering our executive room. It was impossible to take any proper shots of the room before they start messing it up.
I’ve to say we were pleasantly surprised that the dinner was surprisingly good, better than one of our recent experience at another hotel which cost almost double for their dinner buffet. I had one too many oysters that evening at Atrium Restaurant.
Breakfast the following morning was as good as it looks. Weekend breakfast at Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium is served till 11am great for families like us who prefer to laze longer in bed during the weekend. We reached Atrium Restaurant slightly past 10am, and the crowd had somehow dispersed by then, so we did not have to squeeze through the buffet spread. Food was replenished fairly quickly too.
Kids Dine Free Not Available at Atrium Bar 317
One mistake we did during our stay at Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium was to have a late lunch at Atrium Bar 317 instead of walking into the Atrium Restaurant at level 4. We should have clarified with the waitress before we placed our order at the Atrium Bar 317, as we had assumed Kids will get to dine free at all their dining options within the hotel. Nevertheless, we had a chilling good time at the Bar.
Kids Menu at Atrium Restaurant also has more varieties and the menu has been developed in partnership with Nutrition Australia to provide a nutritious balance of foods to support children’s nutrition requirements.
Here’s a video of our previous visit to the hotel to check out their new Kids Menu.
Overall a Great Family Getaway at Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium
I asked what the girls enjoyed most during the stay, and like all the other staycations we had as a family, they reply was in unison, “The Pool! And the bath tub!“. Now that both of them are more daring and adventurous than before, they could spend their time alone in the pool (for a looooong time) while I chill and catch up with my Korean drama on Viu with the fast wifi connection around the hotel. Win-win for all! Ha!

Now where shall we check-in to next for our next family staycation? Suggestions?
We just got home and already missing Jen, she has been the most wonderful host so far since our little family started checking out different options in Singapore to get away for a couple of days. Jen is sexy, chic and oh-so-comfy, and she’s got some awesome X-factors too! Jen is also giving special treat to her guests who check-in with her from now till end July for her special Jen’s City Adventure (booking to be done by 30 June 2015).
Hotel Jen OrchardGateway was home to our family for two days and in Ayra’s words “I want to stay at this new house!” And she kept asking to be showered, either that or she would ask to go swim in the pool at Level 19. I must say, both Ayra and Zara had the most fun during our family staycation at Hotel Jen OrchardGateway.
Thanks to the nice folks at Hotel Jen OrchardGateway, we were hosted in Jen’s most awesome Panorama Club Room on the 15th floor. We were all in awed the moment we stepped into the room, a corner unit with full-length L-shaped windows overlooking Orchard Road. The girls kept jumping around and going “Wow! Wow! Wow!“. I could only smile in glee, seeing both of them so happy made my day.
And have I told you about their bathroom?? How huge a bathroom does one need in the hotel? The Panorama Club Room gives you a whooping three meter long mirror and there’s even a IPTV embedded in the centre of the mirror! The girls spent the most time in the toilet, soaking themselves in the bathtub until all their feet and fingers turned prune-liked.
This was the other reason why the girls could stay in the tub for so long, they were watching Winnie The Pooh on Disney Channel while splashing in the bath. While mummy sits at a corner to watch over them.
The Hotel Jen OrchardGateway Club Lounge Experience
Our hotel experience started from Level 19 at the Club Lounge where Jen’s team assisted with our check-in while we enjoy a glass of juice by the window overlooking the street of Orchard.
Besides savoury finger food, there were cheese platter, sashimi, salad, fruits, cookies, cakes and free flow drinks and alcohol.
If we do return to visit Jen again, I must remember to bring along my iPad so I can indulge in the huge collection of magazines available for download on Press Reader with compliments from Jen. A great way to just chill and read while lounging at Level 19. Complimentary Wifi is available throughout the hotel and as long as you are connected to their Wifi, you can download and read any available papers and magazines on Press Reader app. This is one of the many Jen’s sexy X-factor. Oh and if you need to charge your mobile or tablet, there are charging boxes placed around the hotel for guests to use so you get to always stay connected without worrying you’ll run out of power juice.
Have a Dip at BayWatch @Jen
On the same level of the Club Lounge, Jen has got her very own BayWatch with pool, kids pool and jacuzzi pool purposely decked out with view overlooking Somerset and the bay area. You can view the Marina Bay Sands from here and catch the nightly laser show too.
I personally love the comfy beanbags and lounge bed along the pool. We managed to park ourselves at one of the lounge bed after dinner and caught the laser show while enjoying the cool breeze that evening. The hub approves and mentioned booking another stay with Jen for just the two of us. •Coughs•My birthday in July•Coughs•
The adult pool was quite packed when we were there but we had the kids pool all to ourselves! There was a corner table and two chairs right next to the pool, so this corner was where we spent our late afternoon on our first day. Zara was keeping herself occupied climbing up and down the steps while Ayra was having her own pretend play with floats and her imagination. >.<
Breakfast Time at Makan@Jen
You know how kids just know what to do at the right time? On usual school days, the would hate to get themselves out of bed, but when its time to wake up for fun time (and awesome breakfast), they got up super early on their own! Why can’t they do the same every single day so Mummy me can send them both to school in time for lesson?
Breakfast at Makan@Jen was delightful, with a good spread of food. There were indian selection, chinese, western, noodles, dim sum, huge selection of cereals, yogurt, pastries, salad, cheese, cold cuts and ice cream! Yes! Who say ice cream is not for breakfast?
Other Jen’s X-Factors Worth a Mention
For those who missed breakfast time at Makan@Jen, guests can get their breakfast fix from On The Go, opposite the main reception at Level 10. Each guest can get pastries, fruit cup and drink. There’s self-help water too for those who need a quick sip before heading out.
For the adventurous, guests can borrow these bamboo bicycles to explore the city. Not sure if Jen charges a fee for this service, please do enquire at the front desk at the main lobby at level 1 for more details.
For all guests, there are two Mac available at level 10, each with their own quiet work space. Printing is available too at a nominal fee, collectible from the reception.
For those with too many luggage for check-in/ check-out, there are trolleys around the hotel lift lobby available for guests to wheel around. I love how these look with bright colours and huge wheels. Almost like a stroller but without the seats.
Instead of filling up your in-room mini bar with drinks, Jen has got vending machines from Level 14 to 18 of the hotel. These vending machines are pretty well stocked with variety of products. You’ll find not just food and drinks, but Panadol, condoms and cutleries too.
So what’s inside the in-room mini bar? There’s the complimentary bottled water and a cup of cut fruits, which all of us gobbled it up soon after we entered our room.
And finally, with the central location of Hotel Jen OrchardGateway, there are so many shopping, dining and entertainment right at the doorstep of the hotel. A great hotel not just for tourists and business travellers, but also for locals who want to indulge in some relaxing time with the love one or for those who wants to get tons of shopping done in town and club till the wee hours and chill after with friends at the hotel.
Even little Zara was busy checking out what’s in store at OrchardGateway!
Thank you Jen for this amazing getaway for our family and we look forward to more Jen’s adventure with you soon.

After the first, there’ll always be a second and a third… and… more staycations! One new item added to my bucket list is to stay in as many hotels in Singapore as I can and share my staycation experience! Wahahahaha! continue to dream
To get away from stress from work, we took a short break at the eastern part of Singapore at Changi Village Hotel.
Entering the hotel – The Lobby
Feels good to be away from the buzz and crowd in town. And with the hotel near the beach, it gives us a resort style feel to it, with sighting of planes landing towards Changi Airport, from the pool deck.
The rooftop, level 8
Chill out and relax by the pool watching planes landing is quite a nice way to waste time and rest.
Take a dip in the pool at the rooftop or relax tiring muscles in the jacuzzi.
We stayed on the Executive Club floor as the other rooms were fully booked. (Lesson learnt, don’t do last minute booking!) Good thing about paying premium for a room on the Executive Club floor is the unlimited access to the Club Lounge where you get free flow drinks, juices, coffee and tea; with place to chill beside the room.
The Room at 661, Executive Club Floor
Spacious room with King bed…
Well maintained toilet with rain shower which we love!
The rather sad looking mini fridge which is complimentary in Executive Club rooms.
The Executive Club Lounge
Executive Club Lounge at Changi Village Hotel Singapore
iMac stations for guests at the Executive Club Lounge
Outdoor (Smoking) area at the Executive Club Lounge
Drink all you want at the Executive Club Lounge or bring it back to your room to enjoy.
Complimentary Cocktail Daily from 6pm to 8pm for Executive Club Guests
And this comes with free-flow alcohol – beer, liquor, wine, mixer and other drinks. There are finger food, desserts and cheese station too. Sadly we didn’t touch any of the alcohol. I think my dad and bro will enjoy this.
Buffet Breakfast at Saltwater Cafe
That day, we were the second couple to arrive at the cafe, food were all fresh out from the kitchen and everything look so appetizing! From 4.45am to 5.20am, we had the most fulfilling breakfast ever. Love the variety and quality of food.
It was the month of Ramadan and the hotel serves breakfast from 4.30am onwards. Plus point for Changi Village Hotel! So we requested to have our breakfast at the cafe instead of the club lounge which only starts serving from 6am.
Buffet Breakfast Spread at Saltwater Cafe is great!
The stay at Changi Village Hotel was recharging and we love it. The only not good was the soft pillows provided. Hope they’ll provide other choices of pillows for their guests in the future.
To celebrate the Husband’s birthday, I booked a staycation for us and since Zara has never tried swimming yet, I thought this would be a good chance to let her try floating and kicking inside a bathtub. This was a super last minute decision and I only started searching for an ideal hotel 2 nights before the planned check-in. After a night of surfing through Agoda, and some quick messages via selected hotels’ page on Facebook, I proceeded to book a Club room at the newly renovated Rendezvous Hotel Singapore.
The hotel lobby looks very nice and welcoming. And I was looking forward to a modern and chic room, like those from our staycation at The Quincy.
Center piece at their newly refreshed lobby
Nice lounging area at the hotel lobby
The well equipped gym
This the closest Zara gets to a pool so far
The room we were given was on the 10th floor and we had to walk all the way back into the corner of the hotel from the lift lobby. And when we reached the room, it wasn’t as how I had imagined. The Club Room, which we booked through Agoda, was a little small and it didn’t come with a bathtub!
Club Room at Level 10
Entrance at Club Room
Club Room toilet (no bathtub)
Located on the top three floors of the hotel, the Club Rooms provide a variety of Club Rendezvous benefits, such as personalised check-in at the Club Rendezvous (which we didn’t receive), a welcome fruit basket (didn’t get this too) and upgraded bathroom amenities. Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast in the Club Rendezvous (Breakfast at Straits Cafe has more varieties) to start the day, and unwind in the evening with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres (we missed this as we had another dinner reservation made) amid panoramic city views. Also receive a 20% discount on laundry/dry-cleaning services and broadband and wireless internet access (this was useful) throughout the hotel.[/box]
Since the main reason for this staycation was for Zara to have a dip in the bathtub, I immediately called the reception to check if we can be moved to a room with one. I was told the only rooms were the Junior Suite. Lucky us, we got an upgrade at no extra charge since we were only staying for one night. The suite was on the 4th floor.
The spacious living space for relaxing
The King size bed that wasn’t very comfortable (a little too hard for us)
Bath amenities in the washroom
Bathtub and shower room
From the website, looks like their recent renovation focused on the club experience, so we took a trip to the Club Level on 11th to check it out.
Cosy Club Lounge on Level 11
The food corner where breakfast and evening cocktail is served
Nice bench sofa seats
Club Lounge is baby friendly, according to the Hotel Manager
Throughout the stay, the most relaxed person must be Zara. Instead of the baby cot which we requested, she got to sleep on the bed with us as the cot provided was a little dirty and too low for us to put her down while she’s asleep.
Zara enjoyed the spacious bed
Zara enjoyed her time in the bathtub filled with warm water
Woke up afresh from a good night sleep (leaving just a little space for Mummy)
Chillaxing on the sofa while we packed up for check-out
Overall the staycation we had at Rendezvous Hotel Singapore was a decent one. Nothing much to wow about except the close proximity to town for those who wants to shop and party. Oh! And if you’re staying in their Club Rooms, you get either guaranteed early check-in or late check-out.
If you’re wondering, this stay was paid for from my own pocket.
Aside: While staying there, I saw another couple going around taking photos of the hotel and after some searching (and matching with the couple I caught in one of the photos), I confirmed that its blogger mama-to-be Miss Chewy. Her husband got many nice photos of the hotel, go over and check it out.[/box]
Our staycation at The Quincy Hotel must be one of our favorites. It’s like a home away from home, with their all inclusive weekend stay which came with all 3 meals during your stay with them! We loved it and enjoyed the modern chic room with comfortable bed!
Here are all the reasons why we enjoyed so much during our staycation at The Quincy Hotel…
Love #1 – The chic room, comfy King size bed and in-room amenities
King Size Bed with very comfy mattress and comforter
Complimentary Mini Bar! Just stretch out your hand anytime to grab a drink. Love it!
Everything in here are complimentary too! Lays chips I like!
This was the first that caught my eyes when I entered the room. Next time I should bring PS3 or DVDs to watch! Ultimate pig-out staycation!
Don’t remember seeing complimentary copies of magazine in a hotel room before. This is the first! Nice touch Quincy!
Lovely shampoo and shower amenities in the toilet! From Molten Brown
Love #2 – Full board staycation
Buffet Breakfast included
Set Lunch included too!
Set dinner! All three meals included in the package! How cool is that!
Set lunch and dinner comes with free-flow salad, soup, drinks, juices, coffee, tea and biscuits for nibbles.
Set dinner thats filling and satisfying. It tastes better than it looks!
Besides three meals, there’s also free-flow coffee or tea and a free fall zone aka Ice cream with strawberry or chocolate sauce for topping! Love this! I had like three cups during my stay that weekend! Great chilling off in this hot weather. Complimentary cocktail is also served daily from 6pm to 8pm at the restaurant. Think free flow beer, wine, liquor, mixer and more! Drink drank drunk anyone?
Love #3 – Hotel facilities and things we get to do
Lovely pool on the 12th floor. Floats are for Saturday’s movie night use! Don’t miss this unique experience while you’re at the hotel!
The hotel gym is very well equipped and its accessible 24-hrs! This is only one side of it. More muscle toning machines on the other end!
Sweat it out in the sauna room
Or get a steam bath! Great for clearing off the stress from a day’s work
There’s lockers too on the 12th floor. Great for pre/post check-in guests.
Overall we loved this relaxing and no-frill all-inclusive staycation at The Quincy Hotel Singapore. Reading again about this now makes me want to go back there again soon, wonder if they’ve made any new improvements to their hotel.

Over the Good Friday weekend, the family went for a short getaway in Singapore. We love staycations in Singapore! No jet-lag, no need to change currency and get totally recharged and as much enjoyment. Loving the mineral pool at the hotel, we went back to Marina Mandarin hotel. And this time, we got upgraded to their Meritus Club room! Much more amenities and better view as compared from our last stay.
The Meritus Club Rooms are situated on the two topmost levels of the hotel. From our room on the 21st floor, we could oversee the view from the highway to Marina Bay Sands. (Reminder to self: need a wider lens camera :P)
Decked with dark wood decorative panelling that brings out a touch of Oriental, each Club Room is equipped with a personal Nespresso coffee maker and a plush Simmons 13-inch pillow top mattress which we felt was a bit too hard for comfort. We missed our King mattress at home that night.
Ayra was excited to see her 1-night only room and went round exploring every inch and corner of it! She found few favorite spots, namely the phone “booth” corner, the toilet light switches, the huge mirror and the drawers filled with “toys”.
The Club Room is equipped with a personal Nespresso coffee maker which Abang loves and drank 2 cups a day. Think I know what I can get him for Christmas! 😛
The toilet is spacious and comes a bath tub which Ayra and I love soaking ourselves in and there is also a standing shower space that comes with with six-jet power shower!
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and will surely be back again in future. Thank you Marina Mandarin for the free upgrade for our reservation and we look forward to our next staycation with you.
Next up, I’ll share Ayra’s first dip into the pool at the hotel’s mineral pool and also one more on our visit to Bricks World exhibition at the Art Science Museum.
