Colouring Pages

So many of these online! Search for them on Pinterest and you’ll have whole lots of Dora The Explorer printable colouring pages to keep the kids occupied while they wait for the day to the LIVE show!

Memory Game Cards

With images I downloaded online, I created this memory game which you can download from here. Just print the A4 sheets out on 300gm paper, cut them out and laminate them if you wish. These game cards can be used over and over again.

Swiper No Swiping!

Get the kids to role-play the characters in the show and the Mum will pretend to be Swiper, going round taking things from the girls. While approaching the toys Swiper is aiming for, Swiper will go at slow motion towards it while the kids will attempt to stop Swiper by shouting “Swiper no swiping! Swiper no swiping!” This of course scare Swiper away and the kids will cheer as they’d protected their toys from being taken away.

Catch Dora & Friends Live On Stage at Resorts World Sentosa

Dora the Explorer has lost her teddy bear Osito, and the search is on to retrieve him! With the help of the audience, Map, Backpack, Boots, Diego and their courageous friends, Dora uses her map-reading, counting, musical and language skills to successfully pass through the number pyramid and the mixed-up jungle to reach the City of Lost Toys. But watch out – you never know what that sneaky fox Swiper might be up to along the way! Dora the Explorer fans will delight in this two act, song and dance spectacular that invites them to think, sing and play along.

If you are still scratching your head on who’s who in the show, here’s a character list for your reference. Don’t let your kids outsmart you when catching the stage show!

Dora The Explorer Characters

Dora-bagbackDora Marquez is the main character. She is an adorable, sweet, young and very beautiful Latina tomboy who embarks on a trip in every episode in order to find something or help somebody. She’s 7 years old.

Boots is a character who Dora met one day in the forest, is her best friend. He is friendly and enthusiastic, and usually wears his beloved red boots, hence his name. He is light blue with a yellow stomach and yellow tipped tail. His parents look similar, with variations in eyes, height, clothing, and fur. Boots is present with Dora on most of her adventures, and he helps Dora to solve clues and puzzles.

Dora-DiegoDiego Marquez is an 8-year-old Latino action-adventure hero with a heart. His goal is to save and protect the animals and their environment. Athletic and fearless, he is always at the ready no matter what the situation. Diego loves learning new things. He takes a scientific approach to problem solving and also uses a variety of high-tech gadgets and gizmos to save the day.

Backpack is a friend and special helper to Dora who helps her on all of Dora’s adventures. Just like Dora, Backpack can speak both Spanish and English. Backpack is a real go-getter with a can-do spirit. As Backpack says in her signature song, “Anything that you might need, I’ve got inside for you.” From binoculars to sticky tape, Backpack’s loaded up with everything Dora might need for her quest, though it’s up to the viewer to pick out the item that will solve the problem at hand.

Swiper is a sneaky orange fox. As his name implies, Swiper steals or attempts to steal key items that help Dora on her adventures. Clever as he is, Swiper never manages to take Dora completely by surprise; an ominous “whisking” sound is always audible just prior to his appearances.

To prevent Swiper from success, Dora must repeat the phrase, “Swiper, no swiping!” three times. Usually she prevails, and Swiper slinks away, snapping his fingers and saying, “Oh, man!”; sometimes, however, Swiper gets to the item before Dora has a chance to repeat the phrase. He then gloats, “You’re too late!” (and frequently “You’ll never find it now!”).

Now you know a little more about your children’s favourite Nickelodeon’s character, go enjoy the show next week at Resort World’s Sentosa!

Everyone in the family is thrilled and we can’t wait! Ayra and Zara are both super hardcore fans of pizzas and come September, we no longer need to store frozen pizzas in our freezer. Cheese Burst Crusts Pizza by Domino’s

A unique twist from the most popular thin crust pizzas, Domino’s launched their new Cheese Burst Crusts flavors. Comes in Chilli, BBQ and the Original Cheese Burst Crusts, now serving SEVEN different crusts which you can pick to match with your favourite pizza toppings.

What’s so special about these new crusts? Well, think two crispy thin crusts with creamy cheddar cheese sauce sandwiched between! Mmmmm…. And add either crushed red chillies sprinkled over (Chilli Cheese Burst Crust) or the savoury BBQ sauce drizzled over (BBQ Cheese Burst Crust) the creamy cheese sauce.

Since I’m the spicy hot “mama” (as recognised by the host during the tasting), my favourite is of course the Chilli Cheese Crust topped with Chilli Chicken! Ohhhh-sooooo-gooooood! Warning though this is not for the faint-hearted. Standby a glass of water!

Freshest & Best Pizza Delivery

I’m not paid nor forced to say this, but my husband and I both agree that Domino’s Pizzas are the best and freshest pizza delivery available in Singapore. With two pizza crazy daughters, we have our fair share of eating pizzas from all the big names here in Singapore, and the ones served at Domino’s are hands-down the tastier and freshest! Even their meatballs and chicken drumlets tasted different. My hub commented that the tomato sauce in their Napolitana Baked Meatball was fresh and nice, he ate the entire serving on his own! I personally love their Golden Roasted Drummets.

And there’s also this new dessert for kaya lovers! This my husband loves it to the max, but I personally find it a little to sweet (I’m a savoury woman)! 😛

That’s a whole lot of guarantee for a pizza delivery! And now I know why though there’s a branch at Kovan but Domino’s not delivering to Punggol. Because due to traffic they wouldn’t be able to meet their 30 minute delivery guarantee! Now you know. So with their new outlet opening in Punggol soon, we the people of Punggol can finally enjoy freshly baked pizzas from Domino’s Pizza Singapore!

Getting Serious About Preschool and Enrichment For Preschoolers

Very often, a common topic discussed in parenting groups and communities is which preschool is good, which enrichment should the parent send their kids to and then question of how well the schools are etc. Education in Singapore is seen as a important essentials for all children and naturally as kiasu Singaporeans, we all want the best for our kids and provide the best within our means.

Last weekend, we attended a series of trial classes with three well known pre-school enrichment providers at the launch party for Serious About Preschool. This portal is said to be the one-stop place for all preschool enrichment classes, and the founder of the portal shared that her team had spent an entire year compiling and putting together the most comprehensive directory for preschool enrichments in Singapore.

So what can you find and do on Serious About Preschool?

If you had tried searching on Google for any enrichment classes for your kid, you would have probably found little or the popular ones only. Bring your search to this portal, you probably can find more relevant choices, and their advanced search seems quite reliable too.

Read & Write Reviews

This is probably one of the toughest part to build in a portal, getting reviews for all the listings on the portal takes time and input from their users. I’ve done enough of similar work in the past for similar sites, and boy lots of growth hacking and rewards system need to be in place to get the reviews flowing in. But if its done well, this is very useful for parents who are considering trying out the enrichment classes.

Book Trial Classes

For those enrichment classes registered with the portal, users can book trial classes directly from the site.

Join A Community

There’s also a community forum in place on the portal, categorised by the age group of your child. It’s still very new so numbers are quite small now. With many similar forums and groups already online, the community here will take a while to mature.

If you had missed their launch party and would like to find out more about their portal, there is an upcoming one in September at The Grandstand. Find more details here.

Here we share the three trial classes we attended during their launch party.

Crafting with Da Little Art School

This was the first session we did, and with the massive number of students and the constrain of space, the session was carried out as best as they could. Both girls painted and decorated their own submarine photo frames and got their hands sticky and painted too. Well at least they enjoyed themselves. The two submarines are now sitting in our study room.

It was quite a brain stimulating session during the 30 minutes trial. The moment the teacher starts the class proper I was just lost, like totally lost. Guess my brain is too rusty for such stimulation, the other kids in the class were all very energetic and seem to be enjoying and learning from the session. Ayra quite focused too but after the session I asked what did she learn, she just stared blindly at me! Looks like she is like me, not into brain stimulating classes. Ha!

Julia Gabriel

The Speech and Drama trial class with Julia Gabriel was Ayra’s favourite and she enjoyed herself throughly. She was initially shy and quiet, but after warming up with the rest of the kids and the three enthusiastic teachers, she got up and followed the activities happily.

If you are serious about preschool and enrichment for your preschooler, go take a look at Serious About Preschool. I am keen to know your experience with the website. Share them with me will you?

Lunch Date with Daughter with Pizza and Fries

I am such a lousy mum! After a great lunch date with Ayra in Oct 2014, I haven’t been able to do another one for almost a year. I promised myself that I need to do it more often, but work and appointments took over almost every available lunch hours over the past year and more in the coming months. But still, its better to have a once-a-blue-moon opportunity than to never have any. So when we had a chance to go out on a mother-elder-daughter only date few weeks ago, we pampered ourselves a little with a nice slow lunch. No rushing, no feeding just good yummilicious lunch with my girl.

See that face when she truffle fries was served? Never mind its not that healthy, that smile and giggle makes all worries go away. Just eat and enjoy!

Lunch that day was at Skinny Pizza, because she requested for fries and then later pizza. I could only think of one place where I can enjoy pizza with her without having to feel that guilty since I was supposed to be avoiding eating processed carb then.

We ordered a Wild Truffled Mushroom, truffle fries and ice cold drink for me. Can you tell I had a bad craving for truffles that day? LOL!

Ayra enjoyed the crispy thin pizza crust and fries, while I had lots of wild truffled mushroom and rocket leaves.

Of course we couldn’t finish the entire pizza so we requested them to pack the left over for us. But the silly mummy left the box of pizza in the ladies and totally forgot about it! Only realized our pizza was missing in the evening when we were on our way home. Too excited about the day’s activities and little things like this are easily forgotten.

Hope we can do more of such girly date out and not just that once a year! I love seeing her so happy.

Five Features I Love of The Revolutionary Baby Bottle by Hegen

Wouldn’t it be awesome if you can squeeze your hand through the milk bottle to remove that bit of powder stuck at the bottom when you are out with your little one? Or wouldn’t it be great if you can find other use (beside using it as measuring cup) for these bottles after your little one has outgrown the tiny 150ml bottle? And wouldn’t it be even greater if you can save space in your kitchen for storing the mountains of breast milk you have painstakingly expressed like a crazy cow?

All the above problems solved with the new brand of baby feeding bottles by Hegen. I tell you, when I saw it for the first time, I am already sold! And now I have three milk storage bottles at home which I used as snack bottles for my girls. Super love!

So what makes this new milk bottle so unique?

1. Designed to fit little hands and yours

I’ve tried it with 6-month old baby Jonas and both my girls, they handled the bottle with ease and confidence. But what’s very useful for having a square and super wide neck bottle is the ability to put our own hands into the bottle for easy cleaning! No more trying to shake bottle as hard as I can to remove that stuck bit inside when washing without a sponge.

2. Push to Close, Twist to Open (PCTO)

Hegen’s practical design allows users to minimise spillage and wastage by allowing you to switch the covers easily without having to transfer expressed breast milk from one bottle to another. It’s PCTO technology allows us to close the bottle with just one simple push, no more struggling to twist that bottle cover while carrying your baby in the other arm.

3. Stackable and storage friendly

Hegen’s unique square-shaped design and wide mouth bottle makes it the first-of-its-kind stackable bottles nestle together when empty and stack neatly when filled, freeing up storage space at home or in a mother’s bag. Its snap-on interconnecting storage lids allow multiple containers to be bound together effortlessly, instantly transforming into an organised milk storage system.

See those snap-on buttons? Yup so smart right? Not sure if it holds well when bottles are filled, I’ve yet tried it out!

4. Durable and quality material

I’ve used many (almost all) brands of milk bottles over the past four years. And I am very impressed with the material and build of Hegen bottles.

Hegen products are manufactured with the highest quality standards, backed by our parent factory with decades of manufacturing expertise and accredited with ISO9001, 14001, 18001, and 13485 certifications. Free of Phthalate, PVC, BPA and EA, parents can rest assured that Hegen bottles are always safe for babies to drink from.

5. More than just a feeding bottle

When my girls transited from the small size bottles to the bigger ones, I ended up having 6 bottles still good condition but of no use anymore. I kept them still but eventually they all ended up in the bin after a few months. If only Hegen was launched four years back, I would have perhaps a good collection of still usable containers for all our little snacks at home! These milk storage bottles make very good snack holders because they are air tight and just the right size for kids to hold. And because of the PCTO cover, the kids can close the bottles on their own but will need the adults to open it for them. This is important because I have experienced enough spillage and wastage when the girls tried opening up their own boxes of snacks.

Hegen bottles make excellent storage for snacks!
The girls can now snack while holding on to their own Hegen bottle. No more snatching and crying.

And a little bonus number 6, Hegen is the brain child of a Singapore Mum! Yup, concept and idea from Yvon Bock, a mother of 4 who through her own experience and interaction with like-minded mums, the idea to create the perfect Hegen bottle was born. Kudos to awesome Singapore Mum!

Very nice packaging too, available for in-store purchases. Online purchase packaging will be different so as to save space during shipping.

If you are planning to get new feeding bottles for your newborn, you should go check out Hegen. Available exclusively at Motherswork for now, and soon on Amazon and at Takashimaya too.

The Chapter of Zara and Her Staycation at KKH Children’s Ward

Sleepy Zara is still in bed and I can’t put myself back to slumperland so this post.

We are now at KKH Children’s Ward 85 awaiting for Doctor’s clearance for us to “check-out” of our one night stay in our private A1 Ward at KKH. I shall keep the details and lengthy story for another post coz writing it is not possible to share the whole episode typing on my mobile and with just a couple hours of sleep over the last 36 hours.

This chapter is on the things we did to keep the little one busy while confined in her metal baby cot bed at KKH Children’s ward.

Things To Do With Toddler (While Stuck In Bed) at A Hospital Ward

1. Meet New Friends

As there were no rooms available for us to admit into on Tuesday morning, we were put in the High Dependency Ward at Ward 65. Zara got a corner “unit” and immediately turned on her busybody self and got acquainted with her neighbor.

2. Attempt to wear a second pair of pants on their own

3. Eat hospital food

4. Let them take selfies

5. Discover they get big ass TV in their “hotel room”, while walking around in socks

6. Give them stickers, crayons and sketch book

7. Let them tie their own hair (even when it’s too short)

8. Make them clean up the mess

9. Let them watch TV before bed (and knock out soon after)

10. FaceTime with Cousin

And most importantly let them get plenty of sleep (and recover quickly so they can return home to play)

Thankful for Zara who behaved very well throughout our episode at the hospital. She was mostly cooperative except the few times when the nurses had to measure her pulse. She just doesn’t like the “massage” on her legs.

Can’t wait to be discharged and head home to catch more sleep in our own beds.

This is how I do my clothes shopping these days

When I had just Ayra, shopping for clothes is much more fun to do, I see pretty dresses, cute tees and anything pink, I’ll just grab and pay. Good thing baby no. 2 is a girl too, so the lifespan of all the elder sister’s clothes is now doubled! Things were going alright for the past one and a half year, but now that Zara is older and wiser, she too is starting to pick her own clothes and shoes! Yes she does that almost every weekend, rejecting the tee and shorts I picked before shower, and insisted wearing the same as her elder sister, and vice versa. This is giving me a big headache. If you’re following us on Instagram, you would have noticed the “twin” dressing the girls have.

These days when I do get a chance to shop for clothes, I will take double the amount of time I used to when shopping for one. And when I see something I like the girls to wear, I’ve to find another piece of a bigger/ smaller size or one that looks the same but different. You know, a pink and purple version for example? I try not to buy two identical pieces so that Zara will still be able to fit into a “new” set of clothes when she grows up to fit Ayra’s current size.

With Zara now growing out of her baby (1yr to 3 yr) sizes, I can better shop for similar clothes from the kids size racks in stores. A size 4 for Zara and size 6 for Ayra. These are what we got from our recent shopping trip to one of our favorite store FOX Kids & Baby, this time at their United Square outlet for their Mother’s day block printing activity.

Matching style with different colours

Personally I’m loving Fox Kids & Baby even more these days, because they are bringing in hipster designs and prints that will never be in passing trends, like the overalls above and the star design dress below.

Matching shades of grey dresses, just add a star pin or necklace for the little one and they’ll matched!

Then there is the long long dresses that Ayra is super in love with, since Zara is not tall enough for these maxi dresses yet, we’ve gotten her a bigger baby sized dress, so she gets to wear a long dress too like her sister.

As long as the dots/ stars/ hearts look alike from far, they are happily matched too. 😛

FOX Kids and Baby Spring Summer collection is now available in store! Go check it out! You’ll also get free $10 voucher if you sign-up for their WT+ membership here.

Disclosure: The Loving Mum was invited to partake in the activity and provided shopping credits to dress up our little girls. All opinions are our own.
